Prices by Timber Species
European Oak — $72 to $115/m²
European Oak dominates our range and is the most popular engineered timber species in Australia. It offers excellent hardness, beautiful grain variation and a wide choice of colours from pale natural tones to deep smoked finishes. Our entry-level European Oak planks (Hera and Metis) start at $72/m² with a 14mm profile. The premium 15mm and 20mm ranges like Mani and Freyja run from $95–$115/m². For a detailed breakdown of European Oak pricing, see our European Oak flooring price guide.
Blackbutt — $75 to $99/m²
Blackbutt is one of Australia’s favourite native hardwoods, prized for its warm honey tones and excellent durability. Our Blackbutt Eco starts at $75/m² (14mm), while the premium Blackbutt at 15mm is $99/m².
Spotted Gum — $75 to $99/m²
Spotted Gum is prized for its distinctive grain patterns and colour variation, ranging from light browns to deep chocolate tones. Our Spotted Gum Eco starts at $75/m² (14mm), with the premium Spotted Gum at $99/m² (15mm).
Prices by Pattern
Plank (Straight-Lay) — $72 to $115/m²
Planks are the most common format. They run in a single direction and are the simplest to install. Our plank range covers 16 products across all three species, from the entry-level Hera at $72/m² to the premium 20mm options at $115/m².
Herringbone — $79 to $95/m²
Herringbone boards are shorter planks laid in a 90-degree zigzag pattern. The entry point is $79/m² for our 14mm range (Chateau HB, Winston Hill HB, Vintage Mocha HB), rising to $88/m² for Black Opal HB and Rome HB, and $95/m² for the premium 15mm herringbone range. For a detailed herringbone pricing breakdown, see our herringbone flooring price guide.
Chevron — $104/m²
Chevron boards have angled end cuts that form a continuous V-point. We offer one chevron product: Mani Chevron at $104/m². Chevron costs more than herringbone due to the additional material waste from the angled cuts.
Installation Costs
The floor boards are only part of the total cost. Installation method significantly affects your final spend.
Floating Installation — $25 to $30/m²
Boards click together over an underlay with no adhesive to the subfloor. This is the fastest and most affordable method, well suited to standard plank layouts.
Direct Stick (Glue-Down) — $50 to $70/m²
Boards are glued directly to the subfloor. This method provides a more solid feel, reduces hollow sound and is the recommended approach for herringbone patterns and underfloor heating.
Total Installed Cost Examples
| Scenario | Flooring | Installation | Total/m² |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget — Hera + floating | $72 | $28 | $100/m² |
| Mid-range — Mani 15mm + floating | $95 | $28 | $123/m² |
| Premium — Mani 20mm + direct stick | $115 | $60 | $175/m² |
These figures exclude subfloor preparation, trims and delivery. For a detailed installation guide, see our flooring installation guide.
Engineered vs Solid Timber Pricing
Engineered timber is typically 20–40% less expensive than equivalent solid timber, and the savings extend beyond the board price:
- Faster installation — engineered boards come pre-finished, eliminating on-site sanding, staining and coating (which adds $30–$60/m² to solid timber projects)
- Less waste — consistent factory dimensions mean tighter fits and fewer offcuts
- Greater stability — the multi-layer construction resists expansion and contraction, reducing the risk of gaps, cupping or warping that can lead to costly repairs
- Suitable for concrete subfloors — solid timber generally cannot be glued directly to concrete, often requiring expensive battens or plywood overlay
For a 50m² room, the total installed cost difference between engineered and solid timber can be $3,000–$5,000 or more, depending on the species and finish.
How SKOV Keeps Prices Lower
Our pricing sits well below typical retail because of how we operate:
- Direct-to-consumer model — we sell through our website and showrooms only, with no retailer or distributor margins added
- 20+ year supplier relationships — long-standing partnerships with European and Australian mills give us access to preferential pricing on raw materials
- Efficient supply chain — we import full containers direct from mills and hold stock in our Sydney and Brisbane warehouses, reducing per-unit logistics costs
The result: premium European Oak engineered flooring from $72/m² — prices that compete with products of significantly lower quality at mainstream retailers.
